Fall 2012 Tuition and Billing Issues

IBS Graduate Students,

Every semester the Twin Cities Graduate Assistant Employment Office experiences delays in processing the necessary adjustments (tuition, fees, health insurance) to graduate students funded by research/teaching assistantships or fellowships.

Although the majority of accounts will be adjusted before the first billing date of October 4, 2012, should your account not reflect the appropriate adjustments by September 20, please email: ibs@d.umn.edu. Alternately, you can contact the Graduate Assistant Employment and Services (GAES) at (612) 624-7070 or the Graduate School Fellowship Office at (612) 625-7579.

Fall 2012 Tuition and Fees Due Dates:
  • First payment due date - 10/04/2012
  • Second payment due date - 11/1/2012
  • Third/final payment due date - 11/29/2012
If you choose to use the installment plan (i.e. not pay your full balance by the first due date), your billing statement will indicate the minimum payment required.  You will also be assessed an installment fee of $35.00 per semester.

If you pay less than the minimum due and/or pay after the due date, you will assessed a late payment fee of $30.00 after each due date.
NOTE: Some charges are not eligible for the installment plan.

Multi-Institutional RegistrationIf you will be attending a course this Fall semester outside of your home campus via ITV or in person, you will need to complete a Multi-Institutional Registration Form and send to IBS via intercampus mail (207A SSB) or in person (251 SSB) for processing.  If you fail to complete the form prior to the start of the semester, you will be billed full tuition from the off campus registration, and need to petition the charges.

Billing Note:
You will need to check your One Stop student account on both the UMD and Twin Cities One Stop, under Tuition & Billing (Student Accounts Receivable).

Application Notes:

  • Complete all highlighted boxes
  • You will be "visiting" the campus from which the course originates
  • Check the box if you will be taking courses on both campuses
  • List the University of MN Twin Cities Graduate School as the College where your degree will be completed
  • List only the courses you will be taking on the visiting campus (not all courses)
Reminders:
  • This form needs to be completed every term in which you take coursework via ITV or in person on a different campus
  • Monitor your student accounts for both campus to make sure all fees are paid, as they are not combined into one bill
    • There may be some additional charges associates with registration on dual campus
  • As with your home campus account, the billing amount may not be accurate until very close to the due date.  Please email the IBS Program two weeks prior to the first billing date if your bill does not look accurate and/or credits have not been applied.

Graduate Assistant Tuition Benefits

Tuition benefits only cover tuition depending upon the appointment percentage and the number of registered credits. Information regarding the University fee and how it is calculated may be found at Student OneStop.
Tuition benefits do not pay for other charges, such as lab fees, installment fees, late charges, late registration fees, etc., which are assessed by Student Accounts Receivable and charged to the student's account. Graduate assistants are responsible for payment of such charges not covered by GA tuition benefits.

Fall and Spring
To be eligible for GA tuition benefits during Fall and Spring terms, the following requirements must be met:
  1. At least 98 hours must be worked during the semester payroll dates to receive tuition benefits, and
  2. The graduate student must be registered for the minimum number of credits.
Note: Eligibility for a non-resident waiver requires the GA to work at least 195 hours during the semester payroll dates.
